Product Review Number 1 Fencing Company Australia Award 2023
Stepped Versus Raked:
On sloping land, you can either "step" or "rake" or do a combination of both to get the fence to run in line with the ground level(s).
So, what's the difference?
For the most part it's aesthetics and personal choice, but there will be an additional cost to "stepping" a fence due to the extra time it takes to build and, in some cases, the additional materials required to build it. The other thing to note with stepping is your ground to fence top height will vary on each and every panel due to start and finish levels so do not expect an exact same ground level to fence top height on any given panel.
A raked fence simply follows the ground level and for the most part, but not always, will have a reasonably consistent ground to top height.
Note: In the event of there being two different ground levels between neighbours unless otherwise specified the finished fence height will be in line with the lower ground level.
Footings:
In most instances we will recommend the use of concrete due to its superior strength and stability as opposed to a cement/soil amalgam mixture
Posts:
Can be of various sizes and various materials such as timber ones like cypress pine, hardwood, as well as steel etc
Frame:
Once again depending on the type of fence chosen this will vary from treated pine to various metals
Cladding(s):
A large variety of materials can be used from humble palings through to various exotic ones
Finish:
Depending on the materials and fence style a variety of end finish items may be chosen or used such as exposed posts, capping, post capitals, painting and so on
