Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose your franchise?
I've spent 10 years in a Fencing franchise. The franchise model is discipline and if you work with in the model you succeed.
What did you do before taking up a franchise?
I was a electronics technician.
How did you raise the finance?
I financed the business through equity in my property.
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
The training was outstanding with 8 weeks on the tools, and this also included office training. The operation manuals were very useful to refer to and there was always someone to call and provide assistance.
What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
I’m onsite by 7am and will build a fence until 3pm. I will then do at least two quotes on my way home. I would then spend at least two hours in the evening writing up quotes, invoicing and general business tasks.
What challenges have you faced?
Everyday there are challenges as each job is different. The main challenge in fencing is communication between neighbours.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so, how?
Being a franchisee has been very rewarding financially and personally. I love having a work life balance.
What marketing/promotional tools do you use to grow your franchise?
Social media is the main marketing tool. Referrals from clients for jobs preformed adds substantial value to your business.
What differentiates your franchise from the competition?
Communicating with clients and spending time when quoting and explaining options. Walking them through the process.
In your opinion, what makes a successful franchisee?
Customer service.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Do your research and make sure the system supports you. The best way to succeed is having the knowledge base and training.
What are your plans for the future?
Growth with a team of guys.
Would you do it again?
Definitely.
