Wow, where do we start and stop with these type of fences?
There is a huge array of styles and materials available that in some cases is only limited by your imagination (sorry and budget)!
As with all our construction advice we will always only build these types of fences using best practices and materials whatever they may be.
Here are some advice points on the timber type of fences that we offer to all our clients.
We mostly use oversized posts (300mm longer than usual minimum size) so as to get the posts into the ground deeper for added stability of your fence ongoing, we always recommend larger style posts for aesthetics and strength, we will also advise on what type of timber, steel or other type of posts would be best for your specific project. Capitals for the top of your posts come in a wide variety and there are several choices of materials they can be made from, machining of timber posts is also another way to customise your fence setting it apart from others.
In the vast majority of cases we will recommend using concrete due to its superior strength instead of cement soil amalgam (cement mixed with soil). Concrete is particularly superior to a fences ongoing stability especially in sandy soil conditions and on higher than usual fences.
Picket Fence Materials Timber Type:
For your plinth and rails, we recommend best available quality Kiln Dried (KD) Treated Pine as not only is it cost effective it is also less prone to warping than what rough sawn pine is and is more resilient to termite attack and weather damage in general. Pickets depending on the style you want could range from treated pine ones through to high end hardwood ones and everything in between.
Some timber fencing materials are just a step above packaging grade timber so it’s VERY important that the timber fence frame is built using best practices which includes not skimping on fixings or materials in general (many do this) and using the correct sized and number of galvanised fixings!
Protecting Your Picket Fence:
Now that you have a PROPERLY built timber fence in place you may consider painting or staining it to not only enhance its look but to also protect it ongoing, if painting or staining the fence (or having it done for you) choose lighter colours if the fence is to receive a lot of hot afternoon sun, darker colours will attract heat and could potentially warp the timber pickets depending on the type used.
Other Non Timber Pickets:
Speak with one of our knowledgable fence installers for details on your options using non timber picket fence materials.

We were very pleased with our new fence constructed by Shaun Smiley, he was a pleasure to deal with and very professional from quoting to installing the excellent quality fence. We wanted to save some plants, and Shaun worked around our wishes to our delight. He is a pleasure to have around when working, no loud music or bad language. I would highly recommend Shaun Smiley.

We had a clear idea about the sort of fence that we wanted, but after getting three other quotes (which were mostly vague) we weren't confident that we were going to find the right person to do it for us. Then we found VIP Fencing and we were so pleased to find somebody who was able to make our fence and communicate well with us. Everything was clear from the beginning - Bryan understood what we wanted, made a suggestion of something that would improve the design (and he was right) and sent through a detailed and clear quote. Karen was also great to deal with and communicated with us with any questions we had. During the job, they worked hard and remained professional and friendly throughout - it was a big job and the days were very hot! Bryan paid attention to detail and took pride in his work. We have already received compliments for our fence and we're happy it looks exactly as we hoped it would. Home improvements can be stressful and costly and it's always a pleasure and relief when you hire somebody and they not only fulfill your expectations but surpass them. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bryan and Karen who are not only hard workers, but are also just lovely to deal with!

Clint did an excellent job with our back fence. Was flexible and easy to deal with during a busy time and able to fit us into a hectic schedule. Great quote and friendly to work with. Thanks again for the work you did! Would definitely use again.

"Thanks for all your help with the fence! Looked fantastic when I got home. Really happy with the extra effort you took with it. It was clear you had a passion for delivering a quality product and not taking any shortcuts. Also really appreciate how clean the yard was when you left and you helping us out by taking away that extra wood. I wasn’t expecting Taylah to ask you to do that sorry or I would have dismantled that makeshift step before you arrived. I guess you had a chainsaw so it hopefully wasn’t too much of a pain. Thanks heaps though!"

"VIP have recently replaced an old asbestos fence with a rather nice Colorbond one. Kudos to Bryan for doing precise, careful work in pretty warm and humid conditions. Kudos also to the asbestos removal team, that fence came down pretty quickly. Hard work all round, well done." - Facebook Page

I used Warren Smith from V.I.P. Home Services Fencing to replace a fence that a tree had knocked down and found his service to be a delight! He got rid of the tree for me and along with his sons had the new fence up for me in no time, the fence itself looks fantastic, so much so I am getting him back later in the month to do another fence that needs replacing. Fairly priced and great service says I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of fencing work.

Highly recommend Alastar, he continued working through dreadful weather to ensure the job would be finished on time so our two large dogs would be housebound for a minimal period of time
