Wow, where do we start and stop with these type of fences?
There is a huge array of styles and materials available that in some cases is only limited by your imagination (sorry and budget)!
As with all our construction advice we will always only build these types of fences using best practices and materials whatever they may be.
Here are some advice points on the timber type of fences that we offer to all our clients.
We mostly use oversized posts (300mm longer than usual minimum size) so as to get the posts into the ground deeper for added stability of your fence ongoing, we always recommend larger style posts for aesthetics and strength, we will also advise on what type of timber, steel or other type of posts would be best for your specific project. Capitals for the top of your posts come in a wide variety and there are several choices of materials they can be made from, machining of timber posts is also another way to customise your fence setting it apart from others.
In the vast majority of cases we will recommend using concrete due to its superior strength instead of cement soil amalgam (cement mixed with soil). Concrete is particularly superior to a fences ongoing stability especially in sandy soil conditions and on higher than usual fences.
Picket Fence Materials Timber Type:
For your plinth and rails, we recommend best available quality Kiln Dried (KD) Treated Pine as not only is it cost effective it is also less prone to warping than what rough sawn pine is and is more resilient to termite attack and weather damage in general. Pickets depending on the style you want could range from treated pine ones through to high end hardwood ones and everything in between.
Some timber fencing materials are just a step above packaging grade timber so it’s VERY important that the timber fence frame is built using best practices which includes not skimping on fixings or materials in general (many do this) and using the correct sized and number of galvanised fixings!
Protecting Your Picket Fence:
Now that you have a PROPERLY built timber fence in place you may consider painting or staining it to not only enhance its look but to also protect it ongoing, if painting or staining the fence (or having it done for you) choose lighter colours if the fence is to receive a lot of hot afternoon sun, darker colours will attract heat and could potentially warp the timber pickets depending on the type used.
Other Non Timber Pickets:
Speak with one of our knowledgable fence installers for details on your options using non timber picket fence materials.

"My neighbour & I chose Warren Smith to demolish a long wooden fence between my property & my neighbours', and erect a new timber fence in it's place. We chose Warren because his quote was very reasonable (we had 6 quotes in all), and because I knew Warren's workmanship was thorough & of a high standard from a job he & Cathy had done for me previously. The demolition of the old fence was complicated by the fact that it was completely covered by thick ivy growing from various spots along the fence. The amount of ivy on the fence was so heavy, it was pushing the old fence over. Warren (& 2 helpers) dug out & poisoned the roots of as much ivy a
