Luxe Retreat to Deluxe Balcony!
The Brief:
Given that the master bedroom and ensuite were shifted to the upstairs, it made sense to create a parents retreat/media room upstairs adjacent, so, it's pretty much a NO KID zone up top!
Having said this, if in the future, someone wanted to turn this room back into a bedroom it would be simply a matter of adding some sliding doors and shelves to the TV reveal, and, hey presto a bedroom re appears!
We also wanted a balcony here that over looks the entire back yard area, and gives you some additional bay views while you are at it, lastly the balcony also gave us the opportunity to completely cover the spa area, thus weather proofing it while still being able to see the stars!
The Journey:
As with all of the internals, the first thing to do once deciding on what you are doing, is to remove everything that’s in the way of making your new creation, in this case it meant cupboard doors, shelves, skirts and arcs, carpets, windows, awning, and so on. In other words a shit load of mess and rubbish to go!
Next, it’s the balcony, so we have somewhere safe to work from to the exterior, working off the engineers report/design, some bloody BIG holes for the steel posts and massive canter levered beam needed to be put in place, followed by timber sub floor, then the deck itself and end walls with the balustrade fitted last.
Upon stripping all external cladding (more mess), plasterers in, Harley in, electrician in, painters in, carpets in, curtains etc and last but not least furniture in which included a lovely new Plush Electric Recliner Sofa.
