Remodeling the Heart of the Home!
The Brief:
The house had a very small and Fugly kitchen, originally that was adjacent to the then dining room which led onto a covered pergola and decking area. What was decided was that we would move the kitchen into the larger dining room area and create a new dining room out of the pergola and in turn expand the decking area which would include an undercover pavilion eating and BBQ area. The old kitchen would then become a snug/study area. The idea here was that if in the kitchen you can look straight through the dining room out to the pavilion and you can also see straight into the snug/study so it would be easy to manage children from and in general socialise while in it. A viewing window to the spa was placed into the dining room area to not only ad a bit more light but is also handy to keeping an eye on kids in the spa without having to go outside.
The theme was a Hamptons Kitchen with a boat shed style Dining Room which included cathedral ceiling and walls clad in dado panels.
The Journey:
Upon arriving at the new make up of the house a drafts person was engaged to draw up the additions which included the upstairs balcony (an engineer was also required for the balcony drawings and specs) and in turn these drawings were submitted to council by our building surveyors for a planning permit to be granted which in due course was granted.
Material choices were made for all the said works and double-glazed windows and doors were ordered along with a retractable fly screen for bi fold doors so doors can be fully opened with no insect issues!
A new Hamptons Inspired kitchen was designed and ordered also and paint/colour schemes were chosen. Our kitchen designer and builder AC&V Kitchens exceeded our expectations! Click here to go to their website.
Once in receipt of the building permit external works started in earnest but while waiting for it other internal works were commenced in preparation.
